North Dakota 1931
The 2023 True Crime Movie “End of the Rope” Describes the disappearance of the 6 member Haven family, in Schafer, North Dakota, in 1931. Husband, wife and four kids.
Charles Bannon became the prime suspect based upon evidence he was trying to steal the Haven farm.
It was discovered that the family was murdered after Bannon confessed that Mrs. Haven killed them and Charles helped hide the bodies.
The bodies were dug up after Bannon said where they were buried. Mrs. Havens body was not among them. But, no one believed Bannon’s tale. He later confessed it was not her.
A lynch mob formed to kill the child murderer. They hung Charles Bannon from a bridge.
It was the last lynching, in North Dakota.
The movie was well done although it left out quite a few details from the actual case.
The movie was based upon the book “End of the Rope” by local historian Dennis Johnson.
