This is what the Editors of Sirens Call Publications have to say about Melissa R. Mendelson’s stories:

I’ve enjoyed reading Melissa’s work for many years. She’s been a regular contributor to The Sirens Call as long as I can remember and has always been a pleasant person to work with. I’ve always loved her dystopian themes and emphasis on tales that reflect the current state of the world. Ms. Mendelson gives perspectives of how things could go terribly wrong if we aren’t careful and don’t mind the direction in which we go as a society. Melissa has a knack for bringing her characters to life through emotional strife and conflict and uses those devices to drive her story lines. Her tales have something to say, a message—something to consider and think about in relation to reality, and the consequences we as human beings bring to the table.

Melissa R. Mendelson’s poetry collection, This Will Remain With Us, touches on everything that all of us have endured throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Melissa is a consistent submitter of short stories and poems which have been published in The Sirens Call. I’ve gotten to know Melissa and her work over many years. All her pieces are thoroughly thought out and easy to read. Her characters are well developed, making it effortless for her readers to connect with them. Melissa puts her heart in her writing, and it shows. It is always a pleasure to work with her. She is careful to make sure the continuity of her stories flow effectively.

Waken: Gary Javin was at the top of his world. His only dilemma was what his wife, Holly wanted, but now was not the time. Then, a strange man bearing a strong resemblance to him warned to “Beware the storm. She’s coming for you.”

Was his words nothing more than a lunatic raving, but the storm came. And lightning struck him, and Gary awoke to a strange world, one that was opposite his. How does he get home? How does he tell Holly that he was sorry, but it wasn’t her. None of them were the people that he knew, and some believed him to be dead. And they didn’t like that he was still alive.

As Gary tried to escape the danger now closing in, he found another, another Gary. How many of them were there, and was one of them in his world, with his wife, living his life?

Holly found herself ensnared in a similar mystery. Who was the strange man that called her, and what was her connection to him? And why did she feel so much for someone that she never met, but maybe, they did meet in another life. And maybe in that other life, she was his wife, and would that Holly also be seeking answers? Would she know what really happened to him, Gary, but where did all this lead the other Holly, the one that never met him? Would she find the answers that she was seeking, or would she fall into the crosshairs of the same danger that Gary himself tried to escape?

Waken by Melissa R. Mendelson can be purchased on Amazon, along with her other titles.
