Review By Chris Bunton
I watched the movie “The Foreigner” on Netflix recently and enjoyed it immensely.
The film is about a Chinese British citizen whose daughter is killed in a bombing perpetrated by a rogue group, of the Irish Republican Army. The devastated father then goes on a rampage of revenge and justice.
The movie stars Jackie Chan, who shows his phenomenal acting ability along with his action skills. He also produced the film.
Chan plays the father who lost his daughter, and confronts Liam Hennessey, the former IRA leader turned politician to get answers. Hennessey is played by Pierce Brosnan, who gives a great performance as a politician trying to cover his sins.
The movie has several plot twists, political intrigue and great acting. It was directed by Martin Campbell, and was released in 2017.
The film is based upon the book “The Chinaman” by Stephen Leather with the screen play written by David Marconi.
One of the interesting aspects of the movie is the political balance shown between the British Government and the IRA, in order to keep the peace. It also gives a great showing of the inner political behaviors of the IRA. The struggle between seeking a new way and trying to maintain honor, along with the clandestine behaviors associated with such underground groups. This gave great flavor to the setting, and made it even more enjoyable to watch.
“The Foreigner” would be good part of an evening at home.
