I had never seen the movie “The Talented Mr. Ripley” But, after finding out that it was originally a novel, and that it was on a list of best crime novels, I decided to hunt for it, and give it a go.
I have not read the book, but it is now on my list. I’m curious to see how they deal with certain aspects of the story in the written form.
The movie is full of big name people, starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Cate Blanchet, and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Matt Damon gave an awesome performance. But, actually they all did wonderfully.
The movie was directed by Anthony Minghella and was nominated for several awards.
It was based on the character Tom Ripley, from a novel written by Patricia Highsmith in 1955. The novel became a series of books, and has been made into several films. The most recent being this current film released in 1999.
The film portrays Matt Damon as Tom Ripley, who desires to change his life, and uses his innate talents to commit what we would call ID theft and murder. He becomes wrapped up in a series of lies, and cover-ups that becomes quite entertaining, and I found myself rooting for him.
If you are looking for a great crime story to watch and enjoy seeing actors and actresses when they were young, I recommend “The Talented Mr. Ripley.”
